While viewing some of the star fish that were attached to the pier one
afternoon, I over heard a father speaking to his two sons. Both sons
holding fishing poles, with a small plastic bucket they were using to
store their caught fish. Barely large enough to fit one full fish into.
As I continue to watch from a far I cannot help but shed a tear when the
oldest son pulls a fish from the water, throws it to the dock. As it
tries desperately to take a breath I hear the boy say with excitement
“Look dad, I caught one” My heart sunk.
First. For the fish. Laying there helplessly. Gasping for a breath.
Knowing what fate it has in store.
Second. For the little boy. For never being given the choice to choose
compassion. For being taught that one life is less important than any
other. For being taught to kill.
Third. For myself. Being caught in a situation where amongst my tears I
choose to turn away and not say a word. For that I am sorry to all the
fish. For you have no voice and in a time of need I walked away. So for
that I post this today. Hoping that I can open the eyes of even just one
person.
Stop fishing today. Stop eating seafood. Stop supporting SeaWorld.
