The last time I went fishing I hooked a little trout and decided to do something different and remove the hook while it was still in the water. I brought the fish close enough and then slipped my hand around it gently. As I began working the hook out the fish relaxed. I watched its eyes wince in pain as I pulled the hook out of its mouth. Afterward the fish relaxed and stayed in my hand for about 30 seconds and then gently swam off. I believe it was thanking me for saving it and was oblivious to the fact that I was the one that caused the pain in the first place. I will never fish again.
